Perspectives on Equity Advancement; Research and Learning Symposium (PEARLS)

PEARLS is a QU Netter School of Medicine initiative created by a group of medical students, most of whom are nearing graduation. Founded on the three core principles of awareness, inspiration and action/advocacy, its goal is to advance equity and contribute to dismantling of systemic racism within healthcare and beyond.

PEARLS is a student-led, faculty-mentored, year-long initiative culminating in a symposium with three components:

  1. "Change Agents" where faculty who are leading inclusive excellence initiatives present their work to the QU Netter community
  2. The "15% Better" initiative, which provides students with a platform to share their unique perspectives, experiences, and creative expressions
  3. Student “Grand Round Pitches” where student-designed scholarly inclusive excellence initiatives receive competitive seed grants and receive mentorship to help support their project to completion.

2025 Symposium

This year, our mission was to create opportunities that foster innovation and creativity. We aimed to empower students by equipping them with the guidance and resources needed for successful submissions across various platforms, including grants, research posters, and creative art pieces. Our goal for the symposium is to inspire innovation and action by amplifying the voices of leaders and providing opportunities for each of us to contribute, no matter how big or small. We’re here to foster a space where ideas can flourish, connections can be made, and solutions can take shape.
