Class of 2028 Residents
Dr. Leah Azab, MD
Resident, PGY-2
University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, CT
Dr. Leah Azab comes to us from nearby Farmington, CT and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Azab brings a vested interest in the intersection of psychopharmacology, neurology, psychotherapy and medicine.
Her personal hobbies include reading fiction, watching Netflix and Hulu documentaries, hiking, spending quality time with family and friends, playing with her cats and chickens, trying new recipes,and traveling.
In the future, Dr. Azab plans to continue her research into human trafficking and trauma-informed care and work with individuals with PTSD. Other fields of interest include neuropsychiatry. She hopes to continue working in the community through residency and beyond.
Dr. Hannah F. Babu, MD
Resident, PGY-2
K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Mangalore, India
Dr. Hannah F. Babu comes to our program from K.S. Hegde Medical Academy in Mangalore, India. Outside of the field, Dr. Babu enjoys dancing, taking trips, hosting game nights and the occasional attempt at DIY projects. In short, she likes to keep life creative and fun.
In the future, Dr. Babu will focus on outpatient and community psychiatry as she aims to bring a fresh perspective to patient care. She is also keeping an open mind to new opportunities as she progresses through residency.
Dr. Emily M. Ramirez, MD
Resident, PGY-2
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, ME
Dr. Emily M. Ramirez comes to our program from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME. Outside of the field, Dr. Ramirez loves to be creative in any way possible; right now, her go-to is crochet, especially while watching horror movies. She also enjoys playing video games, spending time with family and friends and taking care of her many pets.
Dr. Ramirez' professional interests include consultation-liaison, forensic and adult inpatient psychiatry.
Dr. Varun Vallabhaneni, MD
Resident, PGY-2
Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, NJ
Dr. Varun Vallabhaneni comes to us from New Brunswick, NJ and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He plans to become an outpatient general psychiatrist somewhere in the tri-state area following his residency experience. Outside of the residency, he enjoys basketball, football and jazz music.

Dr. Sophia Blanchard, DO
Resident, PGY-1
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, ME
Dr. Sophia Blanchard comes to our program from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her hobbies include dancing, knitting, gardening and trying her hand at DIY projects. She also enjoys a good cup of coffee and spending time with her cat.
Her professional interests include consultation liaison, geriatric psychiatry and psychedelic psychotherapy.
Dr. Matthew Hunt, MD
Resident, PGY-1
American University of Antigua College of Medicine, Coolidge, Antigua
Dr. Matthew Hunt comes to us from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine. Having grown up in Fairfield County, Dr. Hunt is thrilled to be joining a program so close to friends and family. Prior to medical school, Dr. Hunt worked in the mental health field where he gained a deep appreciation for the challenges faced by both patients and providers. Our program will provide a strong foundation to practice in the geographically underserved areas of northern New England.
Dr. Hunt is interested in child/adolescent psychiatry, addiction medicine and neuropsychiatry. When he is not practicing medicine, Dr. Hunt hopes to relax and refresh through his newfound love of traveling with his wife. He is also looking forward to downhill skiing now as well as hiking, lifting weights and catching up with old friends.
Dr. Momil Muzaffar, MD
Resident, PGY-1
CMH Lahore Medical College and Institute of Dentistry, Lahore, Pakistan
Dr. Momil Muzaffar comes to our program from CMH Lahore Medical College in Pakistan. She was raised in Lahore, Pakistan alongside her three sisters and was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by her parents, both of whom are physicians.
Dr. Muzaffar loves making jewelry and playing basketball. She also loves traveling and discovering new cultures and cuisines. In her downtime, she unwinds with Star Wars and Harry Potter movie marathons and finds comfort in watching classic sitcoms —Gilmore Girls is her favorite.
Dr. Muzaffar is deeply passionate about mental health advocacy and aims to develop expertise in psychotherapy. Currently, she is interested in pursuing subspecialty training in either forensic psychiatry or child & adolescent psychiatry, though she remains open to exploring new areas of interest during residency.
Dr. Edward Zhu, MD
Resident, PGY-1
Quinnipiac University Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, North Haven, CT
Dr. Edward Zhu comes to us from Quinnipiac University's Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. Dr. Zhu is interested in the impact that lifestyle and ADLs have on depressive symptoms in older adults along with the impact that adverse childhood experiences have on adult outcomes. In the future, Dr. Zhu hopes to work in the community.
Outside of the field, he likes to unwind by playing music, doing karaoke with his friends, cooking new recipes, watching Netflix, hiking and being run by his dog.
